BlackBerry Messenger for Android caught on camera for the first time

Unknown | 08:59 | ,

BlackBerry Messenger for Android caught on camera for the first timewe ve all heard that :
We should be getting relatively close to the release of BlackBerry Messenger for Android and iOS. BlackBerry had said that the app would be launched before the end of summer, and the last we heard was that BB was sticking to that with a possible September release. Now, we're getting our first glimpse at the app with a few leaked images.
There isn't a lot that can be gained from the first image, which just shows the sign-in page of the app running on a Samsung Galaxy S III. According to the source that leaked the pic to BGRthe app "isn't bad", which probably isn't the description that some are hoping for. Given that there are rumors that BlackBerry has been working on this app for over 2 years now, we would expect that the quality would be pretty high, but that's not the impression that's out there.

The other pics that have leaked through BlackBerryOS.com are more helpful and show the actual app itself. It looks like the app will employ the left-side drawer much like the BlackBerry Hub app on BB10, and have menu buttons across the bottom to easily navigate to your contacts, groups and settings.

We're heading into release season with the Moto DROID announcements behind us, the Moto X today, the LG G2 next week, and the iPhone, iPad, Nexus 5, Nexus 10 refresh, and Samsung Galaxy Note 3 all ahead. If BlackBerry doesn't have something good to show with this app and the A10, there may be no pulling out of this spiral for the company.

application(Pebble for Android updated with Google Hangouts support)

ggbb | 17:57 | ,

The Pebble smart watch now offers native support for Google Hangouts, thanks to a new update to the Pebble for Android app.
Version 1.8.2 of the Android app is live on Google Play, and it specifically supports notifications for the chat service and video Hangout requests. Pebble already supported Google Talk notifications.
Google introduced unified Hangouts at Google I/O in May, combining all of Google's chat services into one - except for Voice. It was not clear why Voice was left out right out of the gates, leaving many to speculate about its death. Product manager Nikhyl Singhal later confirmed that better Google Voice support was on its way to Hangouts, indicating it will stick around.
Google clearly has a tendency to continuously update its products. So, when Google finally brings Voice to the service, users could see the Hangouts app bring more alert features like the ability to answer calls. It also isn't too far-fetched to assume that Pebble will also get deeper Hangouts capabilities with better support and features.
The latest version of Pebble for Android also included unspecified stability improvements and enhancements for third-party app developers.

application(Instagram hits 5 million video uploads in first 24 hours - much to the dismay of Viners)

ggbb | 15:27 |

Vine lovers beware: Instagram video is a success! Initially, anyway.
A company representative told CNET on Friday that Instagram users have uploaded 5 million videos in the first 24 hours since launch. Users enjoyed the new feature so much that they uploaded approximately 40 hours of video per minute at peak, which occurred when Miami Heat defeated the San Antonio Spurs during the NBA Finals.
Facebook-owned Instagram introduced videos with editing functionality, filters and image stabilisation at a press event in California on Thursday. In Pocket-lint's comparison of Instagram and Vine, a similar video-sharing app by Twitter, we found that only time could tell how the two services would fare.
Both services offer a varying array of features, but there also many devoted fans of Vine - aka Viners- who simply don't appreciate Instagram's recent foray into short videos.
Vine "famous" stars, such as Chris DeliaSimon RexBrittany Furlan andSunny Mabrey, even took to Instagram briefly on Thursday just to mock the service's "too long" 15-second video functionality. They apparently much prefer Vine's 6-second videos.
Will Sasso, another Vine "famous" star and former MADtv cast memeber, posted a remake of his popular Vine video on Instagram, emphasising how it's a more comical gag when shortened.
Although the Viners intended to scoff Instagram's video feature, they apparently - and inadvertently- helped it hit impressive upload numbers in comparison to other video apps.

application(Instagram video vs Vine: What's the difference?)

ggbb | 17:09 |

article-title

Facebook-owned Instagram has introduced a new video feature with 15-second videos, editing functionality, filters and image stabilization. Such bells and whistles will likely dazzle the service's 130 million active user-base, but there are also those devoted fans of a similar service called Vine who are now shaking in their boots.
Twitter launched Vine in January, and it has since grown to 13 million users and become increasingly popular. It even spawned a bunch of "Vine famous" stars like Chris Delia, Rudy Mancuso, Simon Rex, Brittany Furlan, Will Sasso, Sunny Mabrey, DirtyCurt...the list goes on. And they've already begun posting Vines to mock Instagram's recent foray into short videos.
However, all scoffing aside, how do Vine and Instagram's features really measure up when tallied against each other? Well, let's take a look:
Video LengthInstagram offers the ability to capture 15-second videos. Vine only offers 6-second videos.
FiltersInstagram has 13 new filters that users can apply after recording to enhance or change the look of their videos. Vine does not have any filters.
Delete Last Clip/EditingBoth services will let users capture multiple clips in a series, but Instagram uniquely lets users delete the last clip recorded in a series. Users cannot delete the second clip without deleting the third and fourth clip - thus they can only remove the last clip. Vine doesn't offer the ability to delete the last clip or edit videos.
StabilizationInstagram has a Cinema feature that stabilizes videos. Vine does not stabilize videos.
Front-facing CameraBoth services allow front-facing camera shots.
Cover PhotoAfter recording, editing and filtering a video, an Instagram user can select a frame from the video that will first appear to other users when scrolling through the stream or user profiles. Vine doesn't have this capability and instead auto-presents a video's first moment as its "cover" in the stream.
Save to Camera RollBoth services will save videos to the Camera Roll.
Auto-playBoth services will auto-play videos, but Instagram has a two-second wait before videos play. Vine has an immediate auto-play for videos.
LoopingVine videos will continuously loop, giving them a GIF-like feel. Instagram videos do not loop, as they simply start and end. Instagram users must tap videos to replay.
MutingVine users can tap-to-mute videos and watch without sound. Instagram users cannot mute videos without turning down their device's volume.
SharingVine shares to Facebook and Twitter, while Instagram shares to Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Flickr, Foursquare and email.
EmbeddingVine users can embed Vines via desktop, but Instagram currently does not include this feature onInstagram.com.
GeotaggingBoth services will let users geo-tag their locations.
Photo MapInstagram offers a photo map that enables users to browse photos - and now videos - based on location. Vine does not have a map feature.
DiscoverBoth services offer ways to discover new videos. Vine has the ability to search people and provides an Explore section with Editor's Pick, Popular Now, hashtags and categories. Instagram also has an Explore section with trending content, as well as search capabilities and support for hashtags.
PlatformsBoth services are available for iOS and Android.
And that's about everything. Only time can tell how these two services will really fare. Vine stars could jump ship to pioneer over at Instagram - or Instagram's videos could get lost and drown in a sea of heavily-filtered selfies and food pics. In the mean time, the rest of us now have plenty of videos to swipe through.

application(Icebreaker: A Viking Voyage for iOS launches - Rovio's first game as publisher)

ggbb | 16:41 |

Rovio Entertainment is now a publisher and has introduced its first title on Thursday called Icebreaker: A Viking Voyage.
Rovio, which developed the popular Angry Birds franchise, morphed into Rovio Stars as part of a new initiative to bring "new awesome games with engaging gameplay, memorable characters and plenty of surprises!"
To kick off its publishing venture, Rovio Stars has unveiled Icebreaker: A Viking Voyage by UK-based studio Nitrome. The game's premise - according to Rovio's blog - is simple: an icy wind carries a band of Vikings away, and now the Vikings are lost in a "perilous landscape of trolls, traps and a lot of ice."
Players assume the role of an icebreaker apprentice and must save their fellow Vikings by cutting through ice, ropes, traps, chickens...and troll snot with "special god powers". The gameplay offers 95 levels of puzzles, side quests, Vikings, trolls, deadly theme park rides, as well as "epic final bosses and offbeat humour".
Nitrome bases the title on its award-winning flash game and has now optimized it for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. It costs $2.99 for the iPad version and 99 cents for the iPhone and is available on Apple's App Store starting today.
Rovio announced earlier this month that it would continue its role as a major iOS and Android game developer by creating a new title for Angry Birds called Angry Birds Go! The Finland-based company teased a website for the upcoming game with a brief sneak peek.
Angry Birds Go! is Rovio's sixth game in the Angry Birds series, with the other titles including Angry Birds, Angry Birds Seasons, Angry Birds Space, Angry Birds Star Wars and Angry Birds Friends. Rovio also launched an Angry Birds Toons cartoon series in March 2013, and it is working on an Angry Birds movie set for release in 2016.

application (Nuance's Dragon Mobile Assistant for Android now detects drivers in hands-free Driver Mode)

Unknown | 13:22 |

article-title

Nuance Communications updated on Tuesday its Dragon Mobile Assistant app for Android with a new Driver Mode and voice notifications features that determine when users are driving and help them remain focused and hands-free.
Dragon Mobile Assistant, the self-dubbed most accurate and intelligent virtual assistant on Android, lets Android users enjoy speech-to-text and text-to-speech functionality like dialing, texting, launching apps, and more. Dragon Mobile simply accesses information, content, apps, music and people - just by the sound of a user's voice.
However, with today’s update to 4.0, Nuance, the brains behind powerful voice-recognition technology in many mobile products, has added new capabilities that detect when a user is traveling in a moving car.
If moving, the Dragon app will now auto-launch a Driver Mode and keep the user's mind on the road. In other words, when in Driver Mode, the app will only recognise and respond to voices. No hands allowed.

The update has added even more capabilities due to Driver Mode like dictation for email, voice notifications that read Facebook status updates, messages, incoming calls, etc., and the option to choose how to wake up Dragon with a customisable word. It also includes general stability and performance fixes.
Version 4.0 is a major facelift for Android fans of Nuance's Dragon Mobile Assistant, as the new features help to make Android handsets essentially more hands-free - no matter the situation.

    article-title
Skype has announced that it's video messaging service is now available to all Windows, Mac and
    App users.

"Just like the millions of users around the world who have already previewed video messaging, you too can now record and share a personal video message, even when your friends and loved ones are not available. The best part is that they’ll be able to view your video message as soon as they sign into Skype."

The service, which has been in Beta for some time, allows users to leave a message when they can't get in touch with those they are trying to contact. Skype has yet to announce free video calls, however, something it is expected to do later in the year with the launch of the Xbox One.
"Video messaging is now available to all Skype users. You can send and receive as many video messages as you want – completely free of charge. Video messages can be received and viewed on any platform or device running Skype," adds Skype.
